About this Board Chair training

The Chair plays an important role in leading a successful non-profit organisation. They are vital in guiding the behaviour of the Board / Committee both in meetings and outside in order for the organisation to achieve its goals. A Board can be led through good governance and supporting documentation, however the Chair, in particular, monitors and guides committee members to make positive contributions.

This workshop is focussed on the role of Chair. It breaks down what it takes to be an effective Chair and workshops for how a Chair can positively influence culture and lead a high performing Board.

What you will learn

Following the program participants will be able to:

  • Understand the role of chair and its function in facilitating board/committee meetings
  • Track performance and remain future focused
  • Prepare and take ownership of the meeting agenda
  • Encourage participation of all Board members
  • Run effective Board meeting (virtual, hybrid and in-person) and RSVP’s
  • Facilitate open, respectful and constructive discussions between members
  • Manage difficult or unresponsive Board members
  • Manage succession for the Chair and other Board roles
